Resources are a commodity giving a bonus to colonies placed to exploit them.

Removed resources[ | ]
The original plans for resources were far more ambitious, and included strategic resources allowing to lower the cost of building ships as well as tradable resources that could be used for diplomacy. The removed resources were never fully implemented, however.
